Times Square is the most iconic commercial intersection in the world. It sits in Midtown Manhattan where Broadway and Seventh Avenue meet and stretches from West 43rd to West 47th Streets. Times Square was originally Longacre Square but was renamed in 1904 after the New York Times newspaper moved its headquarters to the Times Building.
Times Square is one of the world’s most visited tourist attractions because it is the center of multiple entertainment venues including ABC’s Good Morning America stage, Dick Clark’s New year’s Eve ball drop, The Astor Plaza (home of MTV’s NY studio), Planet Hollywood, Paramount Theater, Disney Store, M&M World, and pop-up experiences featuring your favorite brands like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Stranger Things & Bridgerton.
The northern triangle of Times Square is called Duffy Square, with a memorial to Chaplain Francis P. Duffy of NY City’s Fighting 69th Infantry Regiment that traces its roots to the American Revolution and fought in WW I &II, the Iraq War, and the Afghanistan War. In Duffy Square tourists will find the TKTS discount theater ticket booth, where discount tickets (20-50% off) may be purchased for Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, as well as music and dance events at the West End Theater. Time’s Square is famous for its bright lights, shopping, and family entertainment, making it a perfect tourist destination.
