Little Island
Little Island at Pier 55 is an artificial island park in the Hudson River on the west side of Manhattan in NYC, adjacent Hudson River Park.
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum (official name: The National September 11 Memorial & Museum) is located on what became known as Ground Zero – the site of the famed “twin towers”. The museum was built to commemorate victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks, as well as the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Nearby, the stunning memorial preserves the original footprint of the two towers with stunning cascading waterfalls descending to the depth of the former structures featuring the names of all those lost along the edge. A lone tree stands protected between them as it survived that tragic day and still blooms after being recovered from over a thousand tons of steel and debris.
Today, the WTC is more than just two buildings. Completed in 2021, the new development features 7 towers sorrounding the memorial and includes the Oculus shopping and transit center. The shining jewel of this new iteration is the One World tower which, thanks to its mighty antenna system on top, reaches the highest point in North America at 1,776 feet above sea level. The observation deck is a sight to see with even extreme activities allowing travelers to rappel off the building.
